Ceramic Coating vs Wax vs Sealant: Which Is Right for Your Car?

Wax is the shortest-lasting and cheapest, sealant lasts longer, and ceramic coating is the most durable. Here is how to choose.

The short version

OptionHow long it lastsBest for
WaxWeeks to a few monthsQuick gloss and short-term protection
SealantA few monthsLonger protection than wax
Ceramic coatingYearsLong-term protection and easier washing

Exact durability depends on the product, the car's use, how it is washed and the preparation.

Our ceramic coating options

  • Ceramic Essential: about 1 year of protection, without paint correction.
  • Ceramic Luxe: about 2 years, with two-step paint correction.
  • Ceramic Ultra Luxe: about 4 to 5 years, with multi-stage paint correction.

What ceramic coating does not do

Ceramic coating does not make paint scratch-proof, and it does not replace washing. It adds protection, gloss and a hydrophobic surface that makes dirt easier to remove. We give maintenance instructions with every ceramic coating.

Why preparation matters

A coating locks in what is under it. That is why our coatings include decontamination and clay treatment, and why the higher levels include paint correction first.

Which should you pick?

  • Want a quick, affordable shine: wax protection with an exterior package.
  • Want years of protection for a car you keep: a ceramic coating.
  • Want the paint to look its best first: pick a coating that includes paint correction.
